How to Prepare

Safe. Positive. Focused on You.

We'll be working together... partners... like a dynamic duo. I won't tell you what to do: I won't have unrealistic expectations. I want you to succeed, and we'll work together to make it happen.

To create a safe, positive and productive learning experience, we'll follow a few guideline. Here's how it works:

My Role:

  • I'll teach you positive, force-free, welfare-focused skills and how to use them, then work with you to create an at-home practice plan.

  • I'll select an appropriate venue for our session, based on your Pup' needs. The location may change on short notice due to factors such as weather, but I'll inform you of any changes; so please make sure you give me a current phone number to reach you at.

  • We'll agree on session times and duration in advance; I'll provide an email confirmation. Session plans are pre-paid, so payment is due at the time of booking.

  • I believe that kindness isn't optional: it's required. I will be your partner, advocate and cheerleader. I'll support you by celebrating with you, but I'll also give you feedback that will help you grow and do even better.

  • No matter where you're at in your learning journey or what you've done before, I'll never judge.

Your Role:

  • You'll actively participate in creating a training plan that works for your life. Based on your needs and your Pup (their personality, breed make-up, age, health, emotions and home-life) I'll provide the "what's", and we'll work together to identify the "when's" and "how's".

  • The more you and Pup practice, the stronger your new skills will get. You are completely in control of your own progression. A few minutes of practice every day can make a big difference.

  • You are your Pup's role model and Caregiver. That means you're solely responsible for the conduct of your Pup at all times. This includes the safety of your Pup, of all people accompanying you, of me (the Trainer), and of any person or animal your Pup may encounter during the session. Basically, think safety first.

  • You will inform me of any known serious behaviour incidents, including aggressive behaviour or biting. Together we'll decide on a safety plan, which may include referral to a specialist.

  • For the comfort of your Pup, it's suggested that you use a y-shaped harness and 12-foot leash during our sessions.

  • You will arrive to sessions on time and prepared, and so will I. Bring some high-value treats, and any appropriate equipment needed for the session.

  • New situations can be stressful, and nerves can make our bladders and bowels a little over-active. For your Pup's comfort, make sure they've had an opportunity for a potty break in advance of the session.

  • It's more difficult to learn when you're hungry. Please give your Pup their meal or a snack before you arrive for your session.

  • Life happens. If you need to cancel a session for any reason, please give me at least 24 hours notice. Sessions cancelled with less then 24 hours notice won't be eligible for fee transference to a new session.

  • Have fun!!! And keep an open mind.
